SABC SPORT TO BROADCAST 2023 IRB RUGBY WORLD CUP ANNOUNCEMENT

Johannesburg -Tuesday, 14 November 2017 – The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) will be broadcasting the announcement by the World Rugby Council for the host country for the 2023 World Cup Rugby will take place on the 15 November 2017 in London. SABC Sport will broadcast the announcement live on SABC 2, News channel 404 and SABC Radio stations (SAFM, R2000, RSG SAFM and 9 ALS stations) from 14:30 until 16h00. RSG and Radio 2000 will also broadcast live crossings from the Public Viewing Area at Sammy Marks Square in Tshwane from midday. On October 31st 2017, the Rugby World Cup board recommended South Africa as the preferred hosts for the 2023 Rugby World Cup; however the decision must be ratified via a World Rugby council ballot in London on 15 November 2017. The Board made its recommendation following detailed consideration of the comprehensive host candidate evaluation report. This was in line with World Rugby’s mission to deliver a ground-breaking, rigorous and fully transparent host selection process for its showcase event. The SABC is committed to rally behind the bid and make sure that South Africa becomes the best hosts of the 2023 Rugby World Cup
